A Reminder of Nature
On the Tibetan Plateau, there is a small community of protectors: the Tibetan nomads and their Yaks. The nomadic philosophy and lifestyle have endured for nearly nine millennia. At the core of this way of life are adaptability and self-sufficiency. Nomads spend winters in one location and move to different pastures as the seasons change. Their survival needs such as food, shelter, and clothing, are all provided by their natural surroundings. As a result, they understand that their lives depend on the health of the complex web of life around them. They take no more than what can be replenished to sustain them through the next year. The nomads and their yaks graze freely on the grasslands from season to season and experience nature’s rawest elements. This lifestyle serves as a beneficial reminder for us to pause and reconnect with nature within our busy lives.
A Small Contribution
Due to rapid urbanization, shrinking grasslands, and the economic challenges faced by herdsmen, the nomadic lifestyle and tradition are slowly fading. That is why with every LODRO purchase, we add a small gift or detail made from Yak Leather. Our Yak hides are sourced directly from our nomadic partners on the Tibetan Plateau. These hides are a natural byproduct of the nomadic lifestyle and would otherwise go to waste. This also means Yak hides are available only in limited quantities each year. Thanks to our relationships with these communities, we can maintain a high level of traceability, even tracing back to the specific town each hide came from. Through this addition, we aim to take a small step in creating social and economic value with our nomadic friends on the plateau. Our goal is to contribute to a virtuous cycle where by supporting the nomads, we can help preserve their traditional way of life, which allows them to continue protecting the ecological balance of the Water Tower of Asia: the Tibetan Plateau. We also hope this small touch can transport you to the tranquility of nature in a chaotic and fast paced world.
