From design and development to sourcing and manufacturing, quality craftsmanship is a guiding principle for LODRO.
It’s important for us to operate with purpose and intention. This means ordering only what we need, maintaining lean inventory, keeping overhead minimal, and eliminating waste wherever possible. We aim to sell through 100% of the products we make and our goal is to keep products in your hands and out of landfills.
LODRO products are handcrafted by skilled artisans in a carefully selected, medium sized factory in Guangzhou. Each bag requires the skill and collaboration of at least 3–4 craftsmen, from the first cut of the leather to the final stitch. Manufacturing close to home felt most natural as it allows us to support local artisans and maintain close relationships with our partners on the Tibetan Plateau. LODRO also has a workshop equipped with diverse leather crafting tools provided to our artisans for creative exploration and the continuous refinement of their craft.
The workshop and factory also undergo regular audits to maintain fair working conditions. The team works according to their own shift with a generous two-hour lunch break. This structure matters deeply to us as it ensures our skilled artisans are valued for their craftsmanship and expertise.
Finding the right manufacturing partner took months of searching. We thoroughly searched the web, asked for introductions amongst friends and family, and attended multiple exhibitions. After contacting a few potential partners, we came across our current factory. They immediately resonated with our mission and values and from the very first sample, their unwavering commitment to quality, attention to detail, communication, and generosity set them apart. During that initial sampling phase, our team spent every day at the workshop, learning each step of the production process and refining the tiny details. We are honoured to showcase their expertise through our products.
