OVERVIEW

LODRO uses full grain vegetable tanned leather which is the the finest and strongest layer of leather. Being from the outermost layer of the hide, full-grain leather retains the full strength, beauty, and integrity of the raw material, displaying its natural variations. LODRO works with tanneries that are certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), the world's leading environmental certification for the leather manufacturing industry. All our bags are lined with 100% cotton and use electroplated brass hardware and YKK zippers.

FULL GRAIN VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER

Made from carefully selected Spanish cowhides, this leather is gently tumbled in rotating drums and has a subtle finish to enhance its natural character and richness. The leather is vegetable tanned which is a process that relies on natural tannins extracted from plants and trees to turn the hide into leather. This traditional method is much more friendly to the environment and creates leather that matures beautifully over time. With daily use, your leather bag will absorb oils and buff out scratches into a rich and refined patina unique to you.

YAK LEATHER

Our Yak leather, used on small details and small gifts that come with every LODRO bag, is characterized by its natural markings and grain. This raw characteristic of Yak Leather is a direct result of the Yak’s unique origins. The Yak is indigenous to the regions of Central Asia, from the Himalayas through to the Tibetan Plateau. These animals are adapted to thrive in conditions with elevations up to 6000 metres and temperatures reaching as low as -40°C. For our yak hides, we use chrome-free tanning, a process that avoids chrome, heavy metals, and aldehydes.
